A partnership that continues to grow: four new distance study programs now available in French

Cégep à distance, Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles and Cégep de Matane partnership

Montréal, February 25, 2014 – Four new college-level distance study programs in French are now available and open for registration. Techniques de comptabilité et de gestion, Techniques d’aquaculture and Techniques de transformation des produits aquatiques can now be studied at the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles by any student interested, no matter where they live. Certain courses in the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles Techniques d’éducation à l’enfance program can also be taken in a tele-teaching room at Cégep à distance. This was the announcement made today by the three partner cégeps, Cégep à distance, the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles and the Cégep de Matane.

These three CÉGEPs signed a five-year agreement in December 2012  to share expertise and launch joint projects, in order to expand the college-level distance education and offer greater access to college studies to students in every region of Québec. These Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles programs are in addition to the DEC in Techniques de tourisme that the Cégep de Matane has been offering in distance format since Fall 2013 under the terms of this partnership.

Under the agreement, students take the distance education courses specific to their program of study with the CÉGEP that offers the program, but they can do the general education and complementary components with Cégep à distance using its distance education model.

Louis-René Dessureault, the new director of Cégep à distance, says he is overjoyed to be able to add these programs to the partnership: “This allows Cégep à distance to fulfil its complementary role with the network by help CÉGEPs in the regions fill spaces and launch cohorts.”

“The Cégep de Matane and the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles have developed laudable expertise in distance education. Our partnership with Cégep à distance allows us to leverage our respective strengths, increase accessibility to college-level technical education and build the viability of our training programs,” explained Emery Béland, executive director of the Cégep de Matane.

“We are pleased to be able to contribute to the increase in the training offer, in our territory and beyond. The Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles invests a lot in different teaching methods so that more people can benefit. It is an achievement we’re proud of!” added Yves Galipeau, executive director of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles.

To enrol, applications must be sent to the SRACQ. Further information is available on the websites of all three CÉGEPs.
