{"id":10727,"date":"2018-09-17T11:54:05","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T15:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cegepadistance.ca\/?page_id=10727"},"modified":"2023-02-16T16:38:22","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T21:38:22","slug":"financial-aid-for-students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cegepadistance.ca\/en\/home\/studying-at-cegep-a-distance\/services\/financial-aid-for-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial aid for students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">When you take courses with C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance, you can receive financial assistance from the Minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Enseignement sup\u00e9rieur (MES) if you meet the eligibility conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Students who are enrolled full time (or deemed to be enrolled full time) can apply to the <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.afe.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/loans-and-bursariesfull-time-studies\/loans-and-bursaries-program\/\">MES Loans and Bursaries Program<\/a><\/span>. Please note that students who are enrolled in C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance attestation of college studies (ACS\/AEC) programs are not eligible for a bursary and will receive financial assistance in the form of a loan only.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Part-time students (76\u00a0to 179\u00a0teaching hours, not deemed to be enrolled full time) can apply to the <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.afe.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/loanspart-time-studies\/loans-program\/\">Loans Program for Part-Time Studies<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Important information<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Registration period<\/span><\/b><\/td>\n<td><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Session<\/span><\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span lang=\"EN-CA\">July 1 to October 31<\/span><\/td>\n<td>Fall<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>November 1 to April 15<\/td>\n<td>Winter<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>April 16 to June 30<\/td>\n<td>Summer<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">For each session at C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance, you have up to six months to complete your assignments. Then you must do the final evaluation no more than three months after the grade for your last assignment is submitted by your tutor.<b> Student financial assistance never provides more than six payments per session, however. After that, no additional financial assistance is paid, even if you apply for an extension or if you have not yet completed the final evaluation. <\/b>Please take this into account when planning your studies and your budget.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Depending on their situation, some students may receive their financial assistance <b>in a single payment <\/b>at the beginning of the study period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">NOTE: If you register for more than one course at different dates, <b>the session start date is the registration date for the first course.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The financial assistance award year ends August 31, with a possible extension of two months. This means that <b>the August payment may include the payments for September and October. <\/b>Some students may receive a higher payment in August and then nothing in September and October. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">If you apply for financial assistance at the beginning of the award year, the July and\/or August payments could be deposited without confirmation of your student status. During the first confirmation period (around mid-August), a new assessment will appear in your file<b>. <\/b>If you were not a full-time (or deemed full-time) student in the fall semester for the months of July and\/or August, the payment(s) will be considered overpayment. The overpaid amount(s) will then be recovered on your following payments. To avoid this situation, it is recommended that you submit your application for financial assistance a few weeks before starting your courses, and not several months in advance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Summer session<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">NOTE: For a summer session that extends beyond October 31,<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> the financial assistance calculation will automatically be carried out with October 31 as the end of the session. This means that students who register for the summer session after May 15 will receive financial assistance for five months only (payments in June and July and a triple payment in August). Students who register for the summer session after June 15 will receive financial assistance for four months only (one payment in July and a triple payment in August).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Cancellations<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">NOTE: If you cancel one or more courses, your student status may change. If you lose full-time student status (or deemed full-time status), you will no longer be eligible for the Loans and Bursaries Program.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Eligibility period<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">We urge you to read about the <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.afe.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/loans-and-bursariesfull-time-studies\/assessment\/eligibility-period\/\">Loans and Bursaries Program eligibility period<\/a><\/span> and to track the number of months calculated in the eligibility period tab of your online student financial assistance file.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">NOTE: The regular eligibility periods do not reflect the reality of C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance students. If you take all your DCS\/DEC courses at C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance, you may reach the maximum number of months before you complete your diploma.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Confirmation of academic information<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The amount initially calculated when you apply for financial assistance is <b>provisional.<\/b> A new calculation is automatically generated when your registration is confirmed by C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance. The value of the financial assistance is then adjusted based on your <b>actual academic information.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Eligibility requirements<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You can apply for student financial assistance if you live in Qu\u00e9bec and do not have sufficient financial resources to pursue your education.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The Loans and Bursaries Program for full-time students (or deemed full-time students)<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">To apply to the Loans and Bursaries Program, you must be enrolled in <b>four courses, or at least 180 teaching hours,<\/b> in a program that leads to a DCS\/DEC or ACS\/AEC. This means that you are deemed to be a full-time student.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">In some cases, if you are studying part time <b>(from 76\u00a0to 179\u00a0teaching hours)<\/b> in a program that leads to a DCS\/DEC or ACS\/AEC, you may also have access to the Loans and Bursaries program if you meet one of the following criteria:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You are at least 20 weeks pregnant.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You are a single parent and live with your child who is under age 12 as of September 30 of the award year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You live with a child (yours or your spouse\u2019s) who is under age 6 as of September 30 of the award year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You live with a child (yours or your spouse\u2019s) with a major functional disability or serious mental disorder.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You have a major functional disability that is recognized by Aide financi\u00e8re aux \u00e9tudes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You are unable to pursue full-time studies for more than one month due to a serious episodic disorder resulting from permanent major mental or physical health problems confirmed by a medical certificate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>You are a participant in the Minist\u00e8re du Travail, de l\u2019Emploi et de la Solidarit\u00e9 sociale <i>R\u00e9ussir<\/i> program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Part-time students with \u201cend of program\u201d status may also be eligible for the Loans and Bursaries Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">NOTE: Students enrolled in an <b>ACS\/AEC<\/b> program at C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance are not eligible for bursaries and can only receive financial assistance <b>in the form of a loan.<\/b><\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Forms<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">You can find all the financial assistance forms on the AFE website. The paper form must be mailed to the address given at the bottom of the form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">We strongly recommend using the <\/span><span><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.quebec.ca\/en\/education\/student-financial-assistance\/\">AFE Online Services<\/a><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> because the processing time for online applications is much shorter than for paper applications<\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">When should I apply for financial assistance?<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">We recommend completing your financial assistance application as soon as possible. You can submit it at the same time that you apply to C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance or, if you have already been admitted, as soon as you apply for courses in the new academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">For the Loans and Bursaries Program, the new online form becomes available in May for the following academic year (the academic year begins with the fall session) and remains available for the entire year. For the Part-Time Studies Loans Program, the online form is available around mid-June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">If you want to apply for financial assistance for studies you have already begun, your application must be filed within 60 days after the end of your last month of studies in the current award year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">When will I receive my first payment?<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">When you enrol in new courses, the confirmation of your student status is forwarded to Aide financi\u00e8re aux \u00e9tudes. AFE then sends payment authorization to your financial institution. If you have not received your guarantee certificate, it will be issued by AFE on this first confirmation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">To receive the first payment for the current month, you must enrol (course selection confirmed and payment made) no later than the 15th of the month. If you enrol after the 15th, you will receive your first payment the next month. The number of payments will be the same, no matter what your<\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> course start date is, except in the summer session.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Status as an <b>admitted <\/b>student is not enough to trigger the first payment. You must be <b>enrolled <\/b>in the required number of courses (based on your situation) to receive your financial assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">When the authorization is sent to your financial institution, you can check the payment date by looking in the \u201cAssistance award\u201d section of your online file at AFE.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span lang=\"EN-CA\">How many courses must I be enrolled in at C\u00e9gep \u00e0 distance to be a full-time student?<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">To have full-time status, you must be enrolled in at least four courses or 180 teaching hours per session.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">To have deemed full-time status, you must meet the criteria for deemed full-time status and be enrolled in at least 76 course hours, which generally means two courses per session.
