Set Theoretic Operations

Concept: Complement

The complement of a set A is a new set, denoted as A', containing all the elements of the universal set U which are not members of the set A.

Graphic Representation

The area shaded in orange represents A'.

Example

If U = {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9} and A = {1,2,3,4}, then A' = {5,6,7,8,9}.
